he documentary “Non Dove” (Italy, 2021), written and directed by Tomaso Pessina and dedicated to the Venetian painter Emilio Vedova, is available on demand for Italian and international audiences thanks to the cooperation of the Fondazione Emilio e Annabianca Vedova, set up by the artist and his wife to promote his work, and Audiovisiva, an online platform that collects the best documentaries on the central figures of Italian culture. The documentary, subtitled in English and Italian sign language, was made by the Milan production company Twin Studio.
The documentary “Non Dove”, following an integrated model of audio-visual use and appreciation via several channels, expands the Fondazione Vedova’s cultural proposal, offering the use of an audio-visual study free of charge before, during or after the visit – with great flexibility for the visitor – by way of a link or QR code supplied with the entrance ticket. At present, and until 31 October, the exhibition at the Magazzino del Sale is Vedova accendi la luce, for which Georg Baselitz created some specific works in a painting style following Vedova’s “manner”, as a tribute by the German artist to the Venetian master. Other new works on the theme of the so-called “ice-cream (Speiseeis) are also being exhibited.
The film is also accessible all over the world through the on-demand streaming platform audiovisiva.org and a special page on the foundation’s website. The document can in this case be viewed by payment: rental (for one week) or purchase (permanently available). Special promotional codes for educational purposes are also planned to facilitate the use of the documentary in teaching contexts.
The documentary
Testimony of the anthological exhibition Non Dove, curated by Fabrizio Gazzarri and staged to be filmed and exist solely as a film exhibition, the documentary is the story of how an exhibition is set up and of how Vedova himself did this. It is the story of the Magazzino del Sale, which in itself is a Venetian story enhanced by the brilliance of Renzo Piano. It is the story of the magnetic figure of Emilio Vedova, who stands out with his striking, evocative words, and interviews with leading figures from Vedova’s world and the history of art in general: Philip Rylands, Alfredo Bianchini, the curator Fabrizio Gazzarri and a special remembrance of Germano Celant.
